We all want this world to be a beautiful and safe place for our families, friends and future generations.
This is why we are very excited to tell you that Auto Craftsmen can now give your car a Green Oil Change!

G-Oil by Green Earth Technologies

Auto Craftsmen is Now offering Environment Safe, ULTIMATE BIODEGRADABLE* G-OIL® GREEN Motor Oil, the world’s first and only American Petroleum Institute’s (API) “SM” Certified bio-based motor oil. *Ultimate Biodegradable is the highest biodegradability ranking determined by ASTM Standards (2.1 ASTM D-5864)

5w_30We were pleasantly surprised when we compared the cost of 5W30 oil + tax to G-Oil

Regular Motor Oil VS G-Oil VS full Synthetic Oil

Regular Petroleum Based Oil (4 quarts) =  $5.08 a month
This is calculated that you have your oil changed every 3,000 miles

G-Oil (4 quarts) = $6.57 a month
This is calculated that you have your oil changed every 5,000 miles (because G-Oil lasts longer)

Full Synthetic Oil (4 qts) = $8.46 a month
This is calculated that you have your oil changed every 5,000 miles (because Full Synthetic Oil lasts longer)

We have concluded that using G-Oil is a little more expensive then using petroleum based motor oil, but only minimal and you get to stretch out your regular service every 5,000 miles instead of 3,000. {If you are a regular highway driver and already stretch your out your oil changes to every 5,000 miles using regular oil – you would stretch out G-Oil to every 7,000 miles.} BUT REMEMBER -  our recommendation of checking the oil level at every other gas fill-up still stands!!!

FYI: Auto Craftsmen is running G-OIL in our 5 Loaner cars & our Shuttle Van!

G-OIL is better than petroleum and synthetic oils. It is carbon neutral, biodegradable and will not smoke as traditional petroleum oils can. It is the best overall performer in four critical tests: Viscosity Index, Flash Point, Pour Point and Sulfated Ash. These are standard ASTM tests. 5W30 G-OIL has met and passed all the engine test criteria for (API) the American Petroleum Institute SM Certification.

Here is a bunch of information taken from the Green Earth Technologies website WWW.GETG.COM

Why Does Green Earth’s G-Oil Perform Better than Other Oils?

G-Oil is not just equal to petroleum and synthetic oil, it is the best overall performer in four critical tests. Viscosity Index, Flash Point, Pour Point and Sulfated Ash are industry standard ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) tests. Only Viscosity and Ash are required tests. The Flash and Pour points are important but not required. Green Earth’s breakthrough proprietary process for utilization of base Bio-material, results in an oil that is the first to be stable enough not to react with additives used to obtain operating parameters required for the API TC rating. With American grown base ingredients that are Ultimate Biodegradable you can help reduce the USA’s dependence on foreign oil imports and keep our earth clean and safe for generations to come.

We take the left over by-product (fat) of meat processing and transport it directly to our facility.

The cattle they use was already being raised for their meat. The fat is simply a by-product (beef tallow) that could no long be used in cooking due to Mad Cow Disease and with American ingenuity has found other uses for – the latest being motor oil.

1 cow equates to 200 lbs of available animal fat oil (beef tallow)

1 cow = 110 Quarts of Motor Oil

If G-Oil is biodegradable, will it biodegrade while it is in my car?

GET’s proprietary process produces saturated chain of carbon mainly in the 16 to 20 carbon lengths that mimic crude oil distillates in structure. Biodegradability is defined by an ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) specification that puts the material for 28 days in contact with environmentally present bacteria and measures the proportion that is broken down back into elemental form.  The conditions of the engine and the environment are vastly different.  So, no, it doesn’t biodegrade in the engine.  We have engine tests now that show that G-Oil meets or exceeds the performance of ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) reference oils in these conditions and have an ongoing program to continue to obtain additional test data.

If G-Oil is biodegradable, can you just throw it out on the ground afterwards?

You should recycle this oil just as you would any other. While the oil is safe to dump on the lawn, there will be some residue from the engine in the oil that is not safe for the ground. The biggest advantage is that if you were to spill or drip while pouring the oil in, there is absolutely no harm done.

What is the Technology Behind GET?

What is dehydrogenation?
Our pending patent is for conversion of saturated fats from plant or animal origins into high value unsaturated oil like materials that lead to greater utilization of the supply of oils and fats for consumer products without loss of necessary lubrication.

What is nano technology?

Simple, doing more with less: Our patent pending manufacturing process and materials, generally 5 nanometers in diameter, are compared to competitor’s micron size (see below) and generates 1,000 times increase in surface area and millions of time increase in the number of particles. The reason Green Earth Technologies’ products perform so well and are able to be sold at a competitive price is due in part to the precious chemicals added into the product that are performance packed.

JCocker033010_mainGreen Earth’s Biodegradable Oil Wins Long Beach Grand Prix

By Nelson Ireson Editor April 21st, 2010

Biodegradable oil? For race cars? Huh? As oddball as it may sound, there’s now green oil, and it’s being promoted as not only better for the earth, but better for racing, too.

And the team running it in the American Le Mans Series Le Mans Prototype Challenge (LMPC) class just took its first win at this weekend’s Long Beach Grand Prix.

Innovation from racing

Racing has a long history of innovating new products for the consumer sector, including technologies that improve fuel efficiency such as direct injection, turbocharging, alternative fuels, and more.

The American Le Mans Series is also heavily invested in promoting environmentally sound technologies, as it believes the future of racing involves not just going fast, but going green.

Enter the Green Dragon

Green Earth Technologies’ G-OIL G1 Racing Oil is rated as “Ultimate Biodegradable” by ASTM Standards. That’s the highest possible biodegradability rating for engine oil.

The oil itself is “bio-based” but understandably proprietary at this point.  Green Earth says the oil completely breaks down (biodegrades) in a matter of weeks once re-introduced to the environment, though it also recommends disposing of used oil through proper channels.

Based on the same formula as its standard biodegradable G-OIL, the G1 Racing Oil adds what the company calls “nano geodesic bearings.” These are nano-scale particles that it theorizes act as tiny bearings, reducing friction to raise horsepower, and also fuel efficiency–a further improvement for the racing team, as well as the environment.

An Earth Week win

“It is quite appropriate that our win at Long Beach took place during Earth Week, a time to honor theenviornment and the planet, doing our part to save the earth without having to sacrifice a thing,” said Jeffrey Loch, GreenEarth Technologies’s founder.

The victory came against tough competition from Level 5 and Genoa Racing, each of which led at some point in the race, proving that the biodegradable oil is up to the task of facing down conventional oils in heads-up competition.

Biodegradable–but is it really green?

Without more information on the source of the oil used to create G-OIL–information Green Earth jealously protects–it’s hard to know if the biodegradability is more than a marketing ploy in terms of overall environmental impact.

Sure, it would make sense if oil was being dumped wholesale on open ground, but used engine oil is currently collected and recycled anyway. How introducing biodegradable oil to that cycle improves environmental impact isn’t clear.

Further, without knowing the source material used for the G-OIL, it’s impossible to estimate the benefit (if any) to CO2 emissions or reduced oil drilling requirements.

Carbon impact unclear

If it’s from a renewable source, net CO2 emissions from the oil that’s inevitably burned as part of the combustion process could be near zero. But if it’s based on fossil oil, it may be potentially worse, because the biodegradable treatment process is likely to require added energy input.

On the other hand, while modern cars aren’t the oil-seeping sieves they once were, they still do tend to leak some oil now and then. Any reduction in the volume of oil entering the ecosystem this way could have a measurable impact in keeping oil out of rivers, lakes, and soil.

In the end, G-OIL may not have a huge impact on cleaning up the environment. But putting the green message in front of racing fans–plus the added benefit of real performance–can only help improve their perceptions of earth-friendly and efficient technologies.

And that’s something we can all appreciate.
